We aspire to differentiate ourselves from our competition by being uniquely responsive and personable for a better IT experience. - MPL Vision
MPL Corporation was formed in 1985 with a mission to provide information processing and programming support to small and medium-sized public and private organizations—entities large enough to require computer support, but not large enough to require full-time internal support staff or easily absorb the cost of buying a computer of their own. The original partners in MPL bought out the assets of an existing business, which included a mini-computer and a roster of public and private clients, and proceeded to add to the customer base.Over the years, as computing power became less and less expensive, MPL shifted its focus from providing access to a computer via timesharing to providing customized software and systems development and network integration and support. MPL continues to develop software and maintain systems for a number of clients in both the government and commercial marketplace.
MPL continues to be actively involved in several collaborative initiatives established to grow the information technology sector in West Virginia. MPL is a charter member of Software Valley, an organization sponsored by Sen. Robert C. Byrd, and one of the first companies to join the WV High Technology Consortium Foundation, an initiative supported by Congressman Alan B. Mollohan. Additionally, MPL has been active in the WV Entrepreneur’s Forum, hosted by West Virginia University; the WV Chamber of Commerce; and is a yearly contributor to the Teaming to Win Conference, intended to match small businesses with federal government agencies or large companies looking for smaller teaming partners. Since its inception, MPL has been a strong proponent of the concept of teaming with other complementary organizations to win new contracts and then share the revenue.
As desktop computers gained greater processing power, MPL moved into multimedia courseware development, assisted by its association with Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, PA. MPL is a licensed developer of presentation software using Carnegie Mellon’s Just-In-Time Lectures. Its expertise with this software allowed MPL to develop a nationally known training CD on Basic Awareness of Weapons of Mass Destruction in conjunction with two other partners, collectively known as Paratus Associates, LLC. MPL has developed numerous other presentations, offered as stand-alone CDs or via intranets or the Internet, both as part of Paratus and on its own. Its toolset for this purpose includes the JITL technology, and Macromedia Director.
As the Internet became more integral to business functions of its current and prospective clients, MPL expanded its expertise further and now offers web site design, web hosting, e-commerce, and network support services.
MPL manages operations from its home office in Buckhannon, WV, and a telecommuting presence in Morgantown, WV. MPL opened a European branch office in Belfast, Northern Ireland in 2004. The office was focused primarily on multimedia courseware and web site development in the UK. Early in 2008, we closed the office due to the economic climate.

TASC (now known as Engility) was later awarded the NASA contract, which MPL is supporting. MPL was chosen by Engility as a small businesses to propose entry into NASA’s mentor/protégé program, which NASA approved; MPL completed the 2-year mentor/protégé program in May 2017.
